The Return of Indie @ ND

Fall has finally arrived, and tagging along is Indie @ ND, Notre Dame’s favorite indie/alternative radio show. I started the show last year and fell in love with WVFI, our college radio station. The show went into hiatus during the spring semester, but it’s back and better than ever! WVFI is an internet-only station, so tune in here…

Equality!

Today is a great day. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality for all, and I got to write about it for the Local Current blog! On top of all that, it’s Pride Weekend here in the Twin Cities, so the timing couldn’t have been better.

Review: GNDWIRE Launch Party Featuring Bones & Beeker, John Mark Nelson and Gramma’s Boyfriend

Last night I attended an exclusive bash for Minnesota’s newest label, GNDWIRE Records (pronounced “Ground Wire”). Created by Mark Gehring and Dave Simonett (of Trampled By Turtles fame), GNDWIRE’s first release will be John Mark Nelson’s forthcoming album, set to drop in September. The launch party was held at Icehouse in Minneapolis, which was packed shortly after doors…

Predictions for 2015

With 2014 behind us and the great unknown of 2015 ahead, now is the perfect time to transition from reflections to predictions. This week I browsed through several of my favorite blogs, and each had its own “most anticipated” lists for the coming year, and got to thinking about potential hot/nots myself. So without further ado, here…

Give to the Max

Tomorrow (November 14) is Give to the Max Day, a day to support charities and nonprofit organizations. One such organization is She Rock She Rock, based here in the Twin Cities. The organization runs music workshops, retreats and camps for women and girls of all ages, including the Girls Rock ‘n’ Roll Retreat. This past…

Good Luck, P.O.S.

Doomtree’s P.O.S. was forced to cancel his entire upcoming tour last week, after it became clear that he needed an immediate kidney transplant. The music community is definitely concerned, especially in MN. Sure, people are disappointed, but health really does come first. Maybe y’all can help. city pagesminneapolisnews

Forbes agrees: Minneapolis is Hip

It just so happens that Minneapolis’s Warehouse District is a great place to be a hipster. I would’ve expected Uptown or Seward to be ranked higher, but we all know that mpls is hipsterville anyway. However, it’s not the hippest, according to Forbes. It’s behind 11 other hoods, including Silver Lake in L.A. and the…

Gotye Ditched at Bumbershoot

After Gotye performed “Somebody That I Used to Know” at Bumbershoot last Saturday, guess how many people left? 6,000! Come on guys. Could you be more lamestream? Seriously, the rest of his album is better than that song. I feel especially bad for ole Gotye since his concert here got bumped from the Target Center…
